Species & Climate Change Models
This project builds off of species models developed in a previous Conservation International project called Spatial Planning for Conservation in Response to Climate Change, or SPARC. SPARC gave us global models of change-driven shifts for over 17,000 species of amphibians, birds, mammals, and reptiles. SPARCLE takes these models to demonstrate land use plans that
Prioritize where conservation will remain effective as the climate changes
Integrate Natural Climate Solutions to mitigate carbon emissions
Avoid placing infrastructure where it may conflict with future species movement or ecological value
Ultimately, our work aims to make land use tradeoffs visible and navigable for long-term planning.
